Circumstances that lead to homelessness
Homeless people struggle to find appropriate and nutritious foods or financial means/income to meet any food needs, often these people do not have any choice in the variety or suitability of the foods they consume.
Homelessness is usually a result of various contributing factors that affect a person at a given time. The circumstances of poverty that can lead a person to become homeless include:
- Poverty
- Having little money
- Debt
- A lack of education
- Poor mental and physical health
- Disability
- Reliance on public housing
- Living in sub-standard accommodation
- Social problems
- Addictions
- Exiting care (foster care system or prison system)
- Barriers facing refugees
- Unemployment

- Being kicked out of home
- Broken marriages
- Domestic violence
